Map Data

OxCam LNCP
One of the key aims of the Local Natural Capital Plan was to create a shareable evidence base. From this page you will be able to download the mapping files which underpinned our project.

The best available data: Natural Capital baseline

These products were created by the Oxford to Cambridge Local Natural Capital Plan. We used lots of different datasets to create these outputs. There are 2 datasets provided: A 500m by 500m grid of the Arc displaying 19 categories; A 200m by 200m grid of the Arc displaying 7 categories (This is referred to as the ‘account’ dataset because we use it to visualise our natural capital account).
The basemap was created by Natural Capital Solutions. These maps may be shared, provided they are not charged for or used commercially. You must use the below accreditations on may outputs produced with this data.
Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2020
Produced using LCM2017 © and database right NERC (CEH) 2017. All rights reserved.
Contains data provided by Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Environmental Records Centre. All rights reserved.
Contains data provided by Bedfordshire and Luton Biodiversity Recording and Monitoring Centre, All rights reserved.
Incorporates biodiversity data supplied by Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC) in 2019. Copyright to TVERC. All rights reserved.
Contains Corine Data. © Landcover data was produced by a programme coordination by the European Environment Agency (EEA) with funding from the European Union.
This map includes Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Biodiversity Group habitat information as produced by Natural Capital Solutions Ltd. © Natural Capital Solutions Ltd 2020.
This map incorporates biodiversity data supplied to the OxCam LNCP by The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire (Wildlife Trust BCN), and is copyright to Wildlife Trust BCN and/or its partners.
Data supplied is a snapshot in time and data owners should be contacted for up-to-date information.

The most accessible data: Natural Capital baseline

These products were created by the Oxford to Cambridge Local Natural Capital Plan. We used lots of different datasets to create these outputs. There is 1 dataset provided: A 25m by 25m grid of the Arc displaying 19 categories. It allows a much clearer image than the best available data because we do not have any sharing restrictions on it, however it must be remembered it has not used some of the key datasets e.g. data from local environmental records centres.
This Natural Capital Baseline map was created by Alison Smith at Oxford University. This map may be shared, provided they are not charged for or used commercially. You must use the below accreditations on any outputs produced with this data.
The maps were created using the following Datasets: Ordnance Survey MasterMap, the Rural Payments Agencyís CROME Crop Map, Natural England Priority Habitats Inventory, OS MasterMap Greenspace and OS Open Greenspace.
Data supplied is a snapshot in time and data owners should be contacted for up-to-date information.

How to use

  • Do not open via Layer file.
  • Open the TIFF file in ARC GIS.
  • Right Click on Layer in ARC GIS, ad Select 'Properties'
  • In the properties menu navigate to 'symbology tab'
  • Click 'Unique Values' and okay any pop-ups.
  • There will be an image of a folder in the top right of the window and when you hover over it, it says 'import'. Click this.
  • Click the folder in the pop up & navigate to where you have saved the layer file. Double click on it.
  • Press okay.

The best available data: Ecosystems Services

These mapping files were created by the Oxford to Cambridge Local Natural Capital Plan. We used lots of different datasets to create these outputs. There are 18 maps in this category, each showing an indication of the provision of an ecosystem services. Each map is displayed as a 25m x 25m grid, this is to allow fast loading times, and aligns with our message that these maps should be used to indicate the presences on these services but they have not been checked on the ground.
The basemap from which these ecosystem services maps are derived was created by Natural Capital Solutions. These Ecosystems serves maps were created by Alison Smith at Oxford University. These maps may be shared, provided they are not charged for or used commercially. You must use the below accreditations on may outputs produced with this data.
