The Oxford to Cambridge growth corridor is one of the most seriously water stressed areas in the country, yet it continues to be recognised by successive governments for its strong potential for growth and innovation. Supporting sustainable growth in this region depends on a healthy, thriving environment. However, there are key challenges to be aware of including water supply pressures, water quality concerns, healthy river and flood risk. The UK Government is committed to achieving sustainable growth through our planning system. This study focused on how local spatial planning can help to achieve this by examining how water is currently considered and identifying ways local policies can be improved to better support the water system.
